Nurses Find a Path to Thrive at Children’s National Hospital

On June 12, Conway Nursing Pathway Program participants and mentors reunited to celebrate five years of support and education at Children’s National Hospital. Bill Conway and his late wife Joanne Barkett Conway generously established the program in 2019. It enables pediatric nurses, especially from under-resourced backgrounds, to rise to their full potential.
“Get ready for the unexpected,” Mr. Conway advised students. “You will constantly find yourself in situations where only you can make a difference.”
With nearly 60 alumni, the program has helped participants avoid more than $1.7 million in student debt. It also has supported nurse mentors to pursue advanced degrees and leadership roles.
Faculty emphasized the value of this community to help each other and our patients thrive.
“Empowering nurses to care for themselves while caring for others supports a culture of hope and belonging,” said Linda Talley, MS, RN, NE-BC, FAAN, senior vice president and chief nursing officer at Children’s National. “The success of the Conway Nursing Pathway Program makes it clear that we can build careers to last through the power of connection.”
