Corporate Partner Spotlight: Panda Express
In our monthly Corporate Partner Spotlight, we speak with corporate leaders about what inspires them to serve as advocates and ambassadors for children’s health. This month, we spoke with Lara Lee, area coach of operation at Panda Express.
Panda Express has given $2.5 million over 14 years to help us provide world-class care to Children’s National Hospital patients and families, through in-store activations and an associate giving program. The Panda Cares Center of Hope, our Family Resource Center, opened in 2019 to offer a place of learning, entertainment and comfort.
What inspires you most about seeing the Panda Cares Center of Hope come to life?
There’s something profoundly moving about seeing our collective donations transform into a tangible space that provides real support to children and their families. Each time we walk through its doors, we’re reminded of how we make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Seeing the center used by patients and their families highlights the incredible dedication of daily contributions from our associates and managers. It stands as a beacon of what we can achieve through collaboration and shared purpose, and it inspires us to continue giving back to the communities we serve.
What is the greatest lesson you have learned from your time partnering with the hospital?
We've learned the importance of holistic pediatric care to improve children’s lives. Beyond addressing physical needs, it’s essential to consider their mental, emotional, spiritual and social well-being.
This understanding shaped our approach to our charitable efforts. Every child deserves comprehensive care that respects and nurtures their complete being, and it deepened our resolve to contribute meaningfully to their journeys.
What motivates you personally to continue this work with Children’s National?
As a mother of two, I deeply understand the emotions and concerns that come with having a child in need of help. When I visit the hospital and see the positive impact of our efforts, it reinforces my passion and commitment. Knowing our contributions help families during some of their most challenging times inspires me to keep striving to make a lasting difference.
What’s the most rewarding part of working with Children’s National?
It’s incredibly fulfilling to see how every associate’s hard work contributes to a greater cause. Each contribution, no matter how small, plays a vital role in bringing our shared vision to life.
Seeing the positive impact we make — whether through improved facilities, enhanced care or the smiles on children’s faces — validates the dedication and commitment of our entire team.
