Children’s Ball 2024 Elevates Pediatric Care

Children's Ball 2024

On April 13, more than 850 guests attended the Children’s Ball 2024 at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. The gala featured performances by Vanessa Williams and The American Pops Orchestra led by Luke Frazier. It raised more than $3 million to support the hospital’s Fund for Every Child, which ensures that every patient receives exceptional care.

Thirteen-year-old patient Mason joined the orchestra for a special saxophone performance. He thanked his care team, including a child-life specialist who made him feel safe throughout multiple surgeries.

“At each and every step, the team at Children’s National have been there for me and my family,” Mason said.

Chairs Mara Glaser McCahan and Daniel McCahan shared how expert care close to home enabled their son Declan to overcome brain cancer. “We used to say we were lucky to go to Children’s National with all this expertise right here in our community,” Mara said. “But it wasn’t luck. It’s the supporters who invested in facilities, world-class experts and research for cures and therapies. Instead of lucky, we are grateful.”

The Foundation awarded Jennifer and Dan Gilbert the Joseph E. Robert, Jr., Prize in Philanthropy for their visionary generosity to advance neurofibromatosis (NF) research. The prize was established in 2013 to commemorate Joseph E. Robert Jr.’s impact on our community and honor those who continue his inspirational legacy. Jennifer and Dan have exemplified his goal to “think bigger,” including through creating The Gilbert Family Neurofibromatosis Institute at Children’s National after their late son Nick’s diagnosis.

Special thanks to our chairs, committee and sponsors who made this evening possible. Learn more about their impact on our patients and families and the event.
