A Historic Day for Nurses at Childrens National

 May 6 marked an historic occasion for the nurses at Children’s National, when Pamela Hinds, PhD, RN, FAAN, Director of Nursing Research and Quality Outcomes, was named the inaugural William and Joanne Conway Chair in Nursing Research—the highest honor accorded by a medical center, reserved for the most distinguished clinicians and investigators. It is among the nation's first hospital-based endowed chairs in nursing research. “I am deeply honored as this chair holds enormous promise for offering even better care for children and their families and informed support for our colleagues from across all disciplines who specialize in pediatrics,” Hinds said. “I believe that the research efforts supported by the Conway Endowed Chair for Nursing Research will, without a doubt, contribute to the health of children in our nation and in our world.” For more than three decades, Dr. Hinds has led groundbreaking research related to the pediatric cancer experience, quality of life, fatigue and altered sleep during the treatment of pediatric cancers, as well as end-of-life communication and decision making. “We are determined not to let children suffer,” Hinds said. “Let us seek to hear a child’s voice, link that to their pathophysiology, and use it to guide their care. We will make pediatric nursing better than it is today, and everyday thereafter.”
