Junior Council Kicks Off Fundraising

More than 60 young professionals gathered in September to kick of a new fundraising year for the Junior Council. This year the group of young professionals is led by co-chairs LeeAnn Goheen, a legal assistant at Steptoe & Johnson, LLP, and John Green, vice president and senior financial advisor at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.

The kickoff event featured “innovation stations” that highlighted services and technologies such as art therapy, computerized cognitive intervention, and High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU).

Monica Purcelle, mother of 7-year-old Jason Purcelle, shared her family’s experience at Children’s National. Jason, who was born with one kidney that works at 70 percent capacity and one that works at 10 percent capacity, regularly visits Children’s National to receive dialysis. Monica commended the Junior Council for their work, saying, “It’s amazing that you all make a decision to dedicate your free time and help raise money for Children’s National. It means so much to the families, and it really makes a difference.”

The Junior Council raised nearly $200,000 last year through its signature event, Dancing After Dark, and other activities.
