Hyundai Hope on Wheels Awards Research Grants to Advance Pediatric Cancer Research
Hyundai Hope On Wheels and DC-area Hyundai dealers on Sept. 16 awarded Children’s National $400,000 in grants for pediatric cancer research. The Hyundai Scholar Grants will support the work of neuro-oncologists Dr. Miriam Bornhorst and Dr. Brian Rood as they strive to improve therapies for young children with cancer.
“We are grateful to Hyundai Hope on Wheels for their generous support,” said Dr. Jeffrey Dome, chief of the Division of Oncology and the Division of Hematology. “These funds will help accelerate progress as our physician-scientists work tirelessly to save more children’s lives and reduce the side effects associated with traditional cancer treatments.”
This event was part of the Hyundai Hope On Wheels campaign to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. This month, the campaign has awarded $10.5 million in grants to support 45 pediatric cancer research projects at Children’s Oncology Group member institutions across the country. In its 17th year, Hyundai Hope On Wheels has now provided more than $100 million in funding for pediatric cancer research.
“There’s no higher calling than to make sure our children have the best future possible and it’s both an honor and privilege to support such an important cause,” said Dave Zuchowski, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor America. “While we are making positive strides in many areas of pediatric cancer, there’s still work to do.”
