Kastles Serve Up Smiles and Encouragement

Kastles visit

The Washington Kastles, DC’s professional tennis team, served up smiles and encouragement when they visited patients and families at Children’s National July 26.

Visiting from the team were 2017 Wimbledon semi-finalist Sam Querrey and teammates Bruno Soares and Anastasia Rodionova, coach Murphy Jensen, team owner Mark Ein, and the team’s mascot, Topspin.

They joined patients in Seacrest Studios for a live interview that was broadcast throughout the hospital. The patients asked questions about the players’ tennis careers, practice habits, travels, and favorite sports, other than tennis, of course. The team's motto -- Refuse to lose! -- was chanted in the studio to encourage all Children's National patients and families to remain strong during treatment.

The team also visited patients and families in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders and handed out team goodie bags. “You made our day!” said Krista as her 18-month-old son, who’s receiving treatment for leukemia, smiled and waved at the tennis ball mascot.
