Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Subaru Partner to Bring Warmth to Patients
Brrr! Though it’s a sizzling summer outside, some of our patients still feel chilly inside because of the side effects of their treatment and the lower air temperatures that help ward off infection.
Grateful Children's National patients and families received a donation of 240 new blankets to wrap up in, thanks to a partnership between the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Subaru.
“This donation helps provide a warm hug, a splash of color, and a touch of home for our patients and families,” said Fernanda Vessio, Director of Volunteer Services. “We are grateful for this community partnership and look forward to what’s to come.”
On July 17, team members from LLS and Subaru delivered the blankets to the Children's National emergency department, multiple inpatient units, and our transport team. They also brought arts and crafts kits and encouraging messages written by Subaru customers. Across the country, LLS and Subaru are delivering 38,000 blankets, 500 arts and crafts kits, and supportive messages to patients as a part of the "Subaru Loves to Care" initiative.
“I loved seeing the smiles from the wonderful and strong kids that were given a blanket or coloring kit,” said Wendy Chavez, sales manager at Fitzgerald Subaru in Rockville. “The positive energy from the hospital made a huge impact on me.”
