Virtual Race Goes Global, Raises $1.5 Million for Pediatric Care and Research
On Saturday, Oct. 16, more than 2,000 members of the Children's National family across the country and in locations around the world participated in the Virtual Race for Every Child: 150th Birthday Edition. Together, these patients, families, friends, Children's National staff and sponsors raised more than $1.5 million to support pediatric health.
"The Race means so much to so many," said Race for Every Child Director Erica Baca. "It gives our families and frontline health care workers hope. The funds today helps Children's National provide exceptional, compassionate care for kids, support our health care heroes and fuel innovative research. We are so grateful for everyone who supported this year's event!"
This year's Race introduced the Corporate Challenge, which recognizes the event's top fundraising corporate teams. The inaugural winners were (in order):
- B. Riley (B. Riley Financial)
- L.F. Jennings (L.F. Jennings, Inc.)
- Costco Cares About Kids 2021 (Costco Wholesale)
This year's Race was virtual to ensure the health and safety of children and our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants walked or ran the 5k in their neighborhoods across our region and as far away as London, Spain, Hawaii and Singapore.
"What I love about the Race being virtual is that it extended globally," said John Wood, co-chair of this year's Race. "You can walk or run it virtually with friends and family all over the country or on the other side of the world. It’s a great way to safely connect with people around a really important cause: the health and well-being of children."
The finish line isn't the end for this year's Race for Every Child. You can still support exceptional care for kids and innovative pediatric research by making a gift at raceforeverychild.org.
