Dunkin’ Gives Patients at Children’s National Their Childhood Back

In our monthly Corporate Partner Spotlight, we interview leaders about what inspires them to serve as advocates for children’s health. This month, we spoke with Jackie Keown, Dunkin’ field marketing director.

 

On May 21, the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation hosted its third annual prom at Children’s National Hospital. Teen patients, many of whom missed their own proms or similar milestones with friends, celebrated as a community. Dunkin’ also generously supports our Animal Visitation and Therapy Program, including beloved facility dog Hampton, to bring smiles and snuggles to our patients.

 

Why does Dunkin’ support pediatric healthcare?

 

When a child faces a serious health challenge, it robs them of the simple joys of childhood. The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation’s mission is to help kids feel like kids, even on their most difficult days. Supporting Children’s National and its incredible team goes beyond simply giving back. It means standing alongside families to bring hope, healing and moments of joy when they need it most.

 

What makes Dunkin’ Prom at Children’s National unique?

 

At Dunkin’ Prom, teenage patients dance, laugh, snap photos and enjoy much-deserved levity during their care journeys. We transformed the GEICO Cares Atrium into a glowing party for the evening. Vera, one of the teens who attended, shared how incredible it felt to take a break from appointments, dance and see the happiness on everyone’s faces.

 

This event also enables pediatric care teams to see their patients step away from their hospital rooms and celebrate during an otherwise challenging time in their young lives.

 

What is the greatest lesson you learned from partnering with the hospital?  

 

It is profoundly important to give back to those in need. Every patient and family I have had the pleasure of meeting has inspired me with their strength, resilience and courage. Their stories deeply move me and our Dunkin’ franchisees across the region. That inspiration translates into meaningful action, as our franchisees support Children’s National by donating their time, money and Dunkin’ products. It’s a powerful reminder of the impact we can make when we work together for a greater cause.

 

What’s the most rewarding part of working with Children’s National? 

 

Our efforts make a real and meaningful impact on children courageously battling illness and injury. 

 

Seeing what our work means for patients and families reinforces a shared sense of purpose. It shows us that we have the power to make a difference in our local communities, one child at a time.
